Bulletin # 72
This 52-page issue has four articles. Rupert Gamlen from New Zealand submitted two, "What’s In A Name?" exploring the railroad's name after the B&MRR and CB&Q merger, and "HT-6 and HT-9 Open Hoppers" covering a one-of-a-kind car and a class of only 5 cars. The next article "A Modern Day Boomer" was originally published in the UPHS "Streamliner" where the late Jack Haley writes of his brief experience on the Q during the last days of steam. The last article from the BRHS Archives team expounds on the remaining steam locomotives on the Lincoln Division in the last quarter of 1956.

Bulletin # 71
In this 100-page issue, Louis Zadnichek has written another “I am a Burlington Man” tribute to the late Bill Greenwood, a BRHS Conductors Club member as well as an early member of the Zephyr Club. The tribute focuses on his CB&Q career which was the springboard for eventually becoming Burlington Northern’s Chief Operating Officer. The primary topic of this Bulletin issue is J. W. (Bill) Schultz’s treatise on the Burlington’s acquisition and use of 300 of the government’s ex-troop kitchen cars as baggage, mail, and express cars, affectionally known as “jeeps.” This article provides comprehensive coverage of these cars in their Burlington careers, up to, and including, the conversion of a handful to company service cars that made it through the Burlington Northern merger and concluding with one that is being preserved. A full roster of the 300 cars is included with a condensed roster of those that were destroyed, sold, or retired following the Burlington Northern merge

Bulletin #70
Bulletin 70, a 44-page issue, has three articles. The first article is by David J. Leider, and covers the history of the Burlington South Chicago Terminal Railway Company, which was organized by the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad to construct a railroad from a point on the Belt Railway of Chicago near 100th Street, extending southerly and southwesterly a distance of 10 miles to the south limits of Chicago to serve the grain elevators along the Grand Calumet River. The second article by William A. Frankey, examines Galesburg, Illinois' first railroad depot designed by John M. Berrien, that served the CB&Q, the Central Military Tract, the Northern Cross, and the Peoria and Oquawka railroads. It also looks at other Berrien-designed dopts on the early CB&Q. The final article about the CB&Q's small fleet of baggage rider cars, comes from the BRHS Archives with a brief introduction written by Editor David Lotz.

Bulletin #69
Bulletin 69 is a 68-page issue containing two articles. The primary article is Rupert Gamlen’s “The Grant Locomotive Works and the Burlington’s Part in its Downfall.” This article provides a history of The Grant Works from its origins in Patterson, New Jersey, to its move to Cicero, Illinois, and the events that led to the company’s demise with the Burlington’s part in that. Many photos of early steam are included (including Grant-built narrow-gauge locomotives for the associated Burlington Lines), along with diagrams, drawings, maps showing the Cicero factory site, correspondence and advertising. As a bonus, two short biographies of the wealthiest women in the world in 1890 and CB&Q President, George B. Harris are included along with a few surprises. The second, shorter article is “A Tale of Two Bridges,” where BRHS member John Marvig tells of his interest in bridges and shares a brief account of three CB&Q bridges with two CB&Q Bridge Record drawings.

Leo Phillipp has authored an interesting account of his and others’ experiences working on the East End for the Burlington and its “Northern” successor in the 68-page Burlington Bulletin 68. Working with a host of contributors including the Archives volunteers, there was a plethora of material to sort through and make the hard decisions of what to include and unfortunately omit. We hope this 68-page Bulletin will give you, the reader, an insight into the operations at the least recognized, yet very busy locations on the Burlington, Congress Park. The Bulletin begins with a brief overview of Congress Park and its history, then delves into the business of traffic and transfers at “The Park” and the “Park Job” AKA the “Congo.”
